Woods holds the record for most consecutive weeks at No. 1, 281, and the most total number of weeks, 683.[20] Since 1997, he has spent over twelve years atop the Official World Golf Ranking, and has been the number one player for all 52 weeks of a year a record eight times – 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. He has spent 861 weeks ranked in the top-10, and overtook Ernie Els as the golfer with the most weeks ranked in the top 10 in 2013.[21]
