As of 2023, Manchester United had won the most English top-flight titles, with a total of 20. This was one more than arch-rivals Liverpool, who had a total of 19. Meanwhile, Manchester City won the Premier League in 2022/23, bringing their total to nine, with seven of those triumphs coming after the Abu Dhabi takeover in 2008.
 

Manchester City’s dominance

Manchester City topped the Premier League in the 2022/23 season having won 28 of their 38 games, tying with Newcastle United for the fewest defeats in that season. The Citizens’ rise to dominance has been unmatched in the past decade, with the team winning the league for three consecutive seasons from 2020/21 onwards. The soccer club’s effectiveness on the pitch has strengthened the image of the team as well, and City became the Premier League team with the highest brand value in 2022. Manchester City was also the soccer club with the highest revenue worldwide in 2021/22, beating Real Madrid and Liverpool to the top spot.
 

Premier League’s prolific scorers

One of the standout performers for the Premier League champions in 2022/23 was their striker, Erling Haaland. The Norwegian forward scored 36 goals to become the player with the most goals scored in a single Premier League season. While Haaland has some work to do to catch up with Sergio Agüero, Manchester City’s leading scorer with 184 goals, the returns from his first season in England were promising. Meanwhile, as of 2023, Alan Shearer was still the Premier League’s all-time top goalscorer.
