JUST A LITTLE PIECE OF LOVE
I am the wind
that blows in Manhattan
in a morning light
of an almost summer day.
I am a piece of concrete
hanging in the air,
and the colorful flower
displayed at a window
on Fifth Avenue.
I am the homeless
who wonders around
without destiny
moving up and down
in Hell s Kitchen.
I am the sky-scrapers
each day one taller than the other
mounting all the secrets
that push people
to walk underground.
I am the blue sky
and the snow storm,
the blizzard in winter
and the lazy and hot summer.
I am the blond and the ugly,
the elegant and the casual fellas,
the rich and famous relaxing
in their black limousine.
I am the girl, the child,
the African and the Asian
rushing to work or play
moving in the Latin beat.
I am the trees in the streets,
the rats in the subway
and the beasts in the cages
of the Central Park zoo.
I am the lights on Broadway,
the cafes down in the Village,
the art galleries in SoHo
and the money of Wall Street.
I m the full-moon over the East river.
I m the Freedom on the bay.
I m a New York state of mind.
I m just a little piece of love.
